KLA-Tencor calls on you to join us in doing charity
More than 8 million tons of garbage enter the ocean every year, which is equivalent to the weight of 110,000 Boeing 737 aircraft. Faced with the increasingly serious problem of marine pollution, different actions have been launched around the world to help alleviate the pressure of marine pollution.
"Shanghai Love Day" | Make A Difference Day (MADD) is a public social action platform that aims to encourage everyone to participate in volunteer activities after work, care for vulnerable groups, and advocate the protection of the natural environment on which human beings depend for survival. From November 12 to 25, 2018, MADD and many public welfare partners in Shanghai launched an annual volunteer service action around the environmental protection theme of "Green Earth". KLA-Tencor China, a world-renowned semiconductor equipment manufacturer, as a silver sponsor partner, called on all employees of the company to actively participate in the beach cleanup, one of the series of activities.
Mr. Zhang Zhian, President of KLA-Tencor China, said that as a world-renowned semiconductor equipment manufacturer, KLA-Tencor has always served customers, committed to technology research and development and innovation, while also giving back to society - assuming corporate social responsibility. In the past few years, KLA-Tencor has donated to the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation to fund liver transplant surgery for poor children; and the Lifetime Bonus Program of excellent universities to cultivate new technical talents in the industry.
In response to the current plight of the marine ecological environment, the beach cleaning campaign has set up volunteer service stations on the local coastline and organized volunteer teams to carry out activities such as cleaning up beach garbage and collecting data and information on coastline garbage. KLA-Tencor China supports MADD operations through project funding donations, allowing 30 environmental protection actions to be carried out smoothly in the past half month - in Shanghai and Guangzhou, 3 companies, 11 universities and 15 student associations, etc., covering 8 local communities, 2 coastlines and 5 rivers; through a series of green actions, they have fulfilled their responsibilities for social environmental protection. Currently, 772 people have participated in offline activities, and more than 5,500 online personnel have also been covered.
Mr. Zhang Zhian He especially thanked the KLA-Tencor China employees and their families for coming to the front line of service, standing on this unfamiliar but closely related coastline to our daily lives, picking up and cleaning up the garbage with their own hands through their own observations and understanding, and taking action together to keep nature away from pollution.
At the same time, Zhang Jingyang, CEO of Moore Elite , a leading chip design acceleration platform company in the semiconductor industry, was also invited to participate in this charity event. Zhang Jingyang said that he was very honored to participate in the "Hands On (Hands on Shanghai)" charity project and to participate in the environmental protection action with friends from KLA-Tencor. Over the past sixty years, Moore's Law has been driving the progress of global science and technology, allowing people to create chips with lower energy consumption and better performance, and to create better systems and products, helping factories, cars, and homes to do better intelligent control and energy conservation and emission reduction. So some people say that Moore's Law is the self-salvation of mankind. Therefore, the daily work of every semiconductor person is also contributing to scientific and technological progress and environmental protection.

After the event, Richard Brubaker, founder of the “ Hands On ” charity organization and Zhang Zhian, president of KLA-Tencor China , also presented awards to the volunteers. The team members who cleaned up the most weight, the most pieces, or found and picked up the most unique marine debris were awarded corresponding awards.

At the beach cleaning station outside Nanhuizui Seaview Park, you can directly feel the sweat of the volunteers in exchange for the before and after comparison of the 5-kilometer coastline; the active figures of the volunteers attracted local residents and tourists to stop and watch and ask questions. Everyone's practical actions remind the public to pay attention to marine issues and raise awareness of marine protection and environmental protection. We believe that what everyone brings back is not only sweat and dust, but more in-depth experience and thinking, thinking about what we can do after the event that day to respond positively to the trend of environmental deterioration.
KLA-Tencor Team and Beach Cleanup Benefits
"After a day of volunteering, I was physically exhausted, but mentally I enjoyed it. Combining volunteering with environmental protection not only allows us to learn and carry forward the spirit of hard work and serving people for free, but also helps us make some small contributions to the environment around us. Not only that, the most important thing is that through our hard work, we can also bring a little influence to the people around us."
"When we saw the beach, which was originally full of garbage, become clean and tidy after our efforts, we felt a sense of accomplishment. Through this beach cleaning activity, we not only enriched our knowledge, but also improved our self-cultivation. Only when you experience it personally and think from other people's perspectives can you appreciate the hard work of others, restrain your own behavior, and know how to protect the environment. Although we can only deal with a small part of the garbage in this activity, a small amount each time will have a huge effect with more and more times and more and more people participating. Finally, I am honored that we can do our part to make a little contribution to the environmental protection cause and the social environment."
"I have always wanted to be an environmental volunteer and experience the life of an environmental worker. This beach cleaning gave me such an opportunity. The nearly two-hour bus ride on the beach is not big, but there is a lot of garbage! There are all kinds of garbage along the beach: domestic garbage, fishing gear and nets, messy plastic bottles, plastic bags... When I saw everyone holding tongs and plastic bags, working hard to pick up garbage and slowly filling the bags, I suddenly felt that this activity was very meaningful - not only because it is an activity in the name of environmental protection, but also because when you work together with everyone to do something that has a small impact on society, that passion is really rare!"
Mr. Zhang Zhian, President of KLA-Tencor China, said that KLA-Tencor employee volunteers came to Nanhui Beach to participate in beach cleaning. Through their own actions, they gathered the public's love for the sea, raised the public's awareness of protecting marine resources and the environment, and contributed to protecting the ocean. At the same time, they also called on more semiconductor companies and colleagues to participate in environmental protection activities. We are here, waiting for you!
