SmartBond™ 15DOF Multi-Sensor Kit Improves IoT and Cloud Connectivity, Enables Broad Device Compatibility with Minimal Power Consumption

Beijing, China, June 27, 2018 – Dialog Semiconductor (Dialog: DLG), a supplier of highly integrated power management, AC/DC power conversion, charging and Bluetooth low energy technologies, has announced the launch of its new 15 degrees of freedom (DOF) SmartBond multi-sensor kit to support sensor connectivity in the Internet of Things (IoT). The kit is based on Dialog’s DA14585 SmartBond system-on-chip (SoC), helping engineers easily connect sensors to the cloud with the lowest power consumption and smallest board size .

The kit supports more sensors than any other competing product on the market , helping developers collect environmental data such as temperature, pressure, humidity, gas concentration, motion, light, sound, and magnetic field. These rich features are particularly suitable for projects that need to quickly complete prototyping and accelerate product launch . Customers can easily customize the operations and functions required by the application in the software, and can be used as a beacon, tag, wireless sensor or mesh node, etc. In addition, the kit's SUOTA (Software Over-the-Air) function can remotely upgrade the software.

The sensor kit provides engineers and educational institutions with a comprehensive sensor solution with flexibility across both hardware and software, including extensive cloud support, from IFTTT for creating simple applets to creating advanced workflows for data analysis , supporting cloud agents for all major platforms , including Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. Cloud connectivity opens up new possibilities, such as visualization of historical data through data analytics, remote sensor management, Alexa voice command support, alarm notifications, and cloud-based actuator control .

Dialog's SmartBond multi-sensor kit represents the best in the industry for performance, lifespan and range . Based on the SmartBond DA14585 SoC, the kit is powered by 2 AA batteries, achieving very long battery life and covering distances up to 300 meters .

Sensor data collected by the onboard DA14585 can be processed locally using Dialog’s unique SmartFusion™ software, enabling data transmission with minimal interference and power consumption before being transmitted to a smartphone or to the cloud via a Bluetooth low energy Raspberry Pi gateway.

Sean McGrath, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Connectivity Business Unit at Dialog Semiconductor, said: “One of the most important aspects of the Internet of Things is the ability to use sensors to measure, transmit and process data. Our SmartBond Multi-Sensor Kit is designed to provide world-class performance with maximum flexibility and longevity. As the Internet of Things continues to introduce new applications and greater capabilities, our Multi-Sensor Kit has been designed to exceed current and future technology requirements .”

The multi-sensor kit is supported by Dialog software, including application software running on the DA14585, cloud gateway software for Raspberry Pi hardware, web applications and mobile applications for Android and iOS.
