Shanghai, China, March 5, 2024 - Cadence Electronics (Cadence, Inc., NASDAQ: CDNS) recently announced the expansion of its Tensilica IP product lineup to cope with the growing computing needs of automotive sensor fusion applications. The newly launched Cadence ® Tensilica ® Vision 331 DSP and Vision 341 DSP integrate vision, radar, lidar and AI processing functions into a single DSP, suitable for multi-modal, sensor-based system design, and can be implemented in a smaller area Optimal energy efficiency. When paired with the new Cadence Tensilica Vision 4DR accelerator optimized for 4D imaging radar applications, customers can achieve improved radar performance and greater energy efficiency. Large automotive SoC suppliers have taken the lead and selected Vision 341 DSP for their new generation automotive SoCs, which also reflects customer demand for such new solutions.
“Automotive architecture continues to improve and evolve as software-defined cars increasingly take center stage and driver and passenger monitoring systems become more prevalent,” said Raphaël Da Silva, technology and market analyst at Yole Group . “Today, autonomous driving is the new Competitive trends. In order to ensure the safety performance of cars in various situations, the combination of radar, cameras and lidar is the only way to go. Today, there are more than 40 sensors installed on a car, and this number will continue. Growth. Providing such capabilities in a single, highly programmable DSP that supports a broad ecosystem is a big advantage, especially for imaging and 4D, as Yole Intelligence points out in its Automotive Radar 2023 report. Radar is expected to achieve a compound annual growth rate of more than 40% from 2023 to 2028, while the average annual compound growth rate of automotive imaging and 4D radar is likely to exceed 131%.”
The newly launched Vision 341 DSP and Vision 331 DSP combine the proven Tensilica ConnX and Vision instruction set architecture to provide SoC providers of automobiles, drones, robots and autonomous vehicle systems with a highly programmable single DSP solution. Suitable for image sensing, millimeter wave radar, lidar and AI processing. Other features and benefits include:
1
Compared to the Vision 331 DSP, the 1024-bit Vision 341 DSP provides 2x the multiply-accumulate (MAC) capability while providing better performance and energy efficiency than a GPU or CPU.
2
For certain 4D imaging radar workloads, the performance of the 512-bit Vision 331 DSP can be improved by 4 times and the Vision 341 DSP can be improved by 6 times compared to the Vision 230 DSP in enhanced mode for millimeter wave radar applications.
3
When paired with the new DSP for 4D imaging radar applications, the Vision 4DR accelerator delivers 3x the performance of the Vision 341 DSP alone, 6x the performance/area advantage over the Vision 331 DSP alone, and 6x the performance of the Vision 331 DSP alone. 5 times that of 331 DSP.
4
The new Vision DSP can increase the computer vision performance of computer vision filters and NMS algorithms by 2 times, and improve the AI performance of quantization and depth-separable convolution.
Vision 341 and Vision 331 DSP support Tensilica Instruction Extension (TIE) language, allowing customers to customize the instruction set. The Cadence NeuroWeave™ Software Development Kit (SDK ) provides neural network support for both DSPs. In addition, Vision 341 and Vision 331 DSP also support more than 1,700 OpenCV-based vision library functions, SLAM library, point cloud library (PCL ) , radar library, Nature DSP library, OpenCL and Halide compiler for computer vision, imaging, Radar and lidar applications. Both DSP cores are ASIL B hardware random failure and ASIL D system failure certified and can be used in automotive applications.
"As the vision Transformer model becomes more popular, automotive SoC and system companies need to deliver better performance for sensor fusion applications. They want a highly flexible single DSP solution for computer vision, radar and lidar, and AI "Cadence is a premier provider of vision and radar DSP IP, and we offer customers the best of both worlds in a single DSP product," said David Glasco, vice president of R&D for Cadence's Chip Solutions Group . Optional radar acceleration is available to meet this growing need."
