2022 Aspencore Global Electronics Achievement Awards
– Sensor of the Year

Winning product: Mira 220 global shutter image sensor

Demand for VR and augmented reality devices is growing in emerging markets as manufacturers design products such as smart glasses to be smaller, lighter and more comfortable to wear. Mira220 brings new momentum to the market. With extremely low power consumption and high sensitivity at the 940nm wavelength, it not only reduces the size of the sensor itself, but also allows manufacturers to shrink the battery.

Mira220 uses advanced backside illumination (BSI) technology, giving it very high sensitivity and quantum efficiency, with a pixel size of 2.79μm. The sensor has an effective resolution of 1600px x 1400px, a maximum bit depth of 12 bits, and an optical format of 1/2.7”.

The sensor supports on-chip operations such as external triggering, windowing, and horizontal or vertical mirroring. The MIPI CSI-2 interface can be easily connected to the processor or FPGA, and on-chip registers can be accessed through the I2C interface to easily configure the sensor. Digital Correlated Double Sampling (CDS) and line noise correction deliver excellent noise reduction performance.

This sensor combines excellent optical performance with low-power operation. Through 3D sensing technologies such as structured light or active stereo vision, it can realize functions such as eye movement and gesture tracking, object detection, depth mapping, etc. Mira220 will promote the application of 2D or 3D sensing in augmented reality and virtual reality products, drones, robots and Industrial applications such as self-driving cars and in consumer devices such as smart door locks.

At the same time, Mira220 has high quantum efficiency, which enables device manufacturers to reduce the output power of near-infrared illuminators used with image sensors in 2D and 3D sensing systems, thereby reducing overall power consumption. As a result, manufacturers of wearable and portable devices can specify smaller batteries to save space or extend the use time after charging.

  • Mira220 uses backside illumination (BSI) technology and a stacked chip design, with the sensor layer located above the digital/readout layer.

  • Mira220 production enables chip-scale packaging and measures only 5.3mm x 5.3mm, providing manufacturers with greater freedom to optimize the design of space-constrained products such as smart glasses and VR headsets.

  • Mira220 has high quantum efficiency, high signal-to-noise ratio and high quantum efficiency, up to 38%, at the 940nm near-infrared wavelength used in many 2D or 3D sensing systems.

  • Mira220 consumes extremely low power, only 4mW in sleep mode, 40mW in standby mode, and 350mW at full resolution and 90fps.

2022 China Artificial Intelligence Excellence Innovation Award
"The Most Innovative Value Product"

Award-winning product: ams OSRAM Smart Wear-intelligent vital signs and blood oxygen saturation monitoring solution

Thanks to the rapid development of LED technology, equipment components such as optical sensors have repeatedly reached new heights in the field of monitoring, making health monitoring functions popular in wearable smart devices. Moreover, due to their compact size, easy portability, and health benefits Advantages such as monitoring efficacy are recognized by more and more people. ams-OSRAM equips wearable devices with professional-grade optical components to help companies create high-precision, high-quality smart wearable devices that meet the threshold of medical applications.

SFH 7016, a 3-in-1 emitter with high luminous efficiency specially developed for life status monitoring:

The ams OSRAM Multi CHIPLED® family SFH 7016 products are widely used in health monitoring applications, continuously collecting data and issuing timely alarms, and providing accurate non-invasive measurements over a long period of time. Multi CHIPLED®, SFH 7016 uses a transparent epoxy resin STM package and provides matching tape and reel packaging for easy assembly; it has three versions of red (655nm), green (530nm) and infrared (940nm) emitters. The emitters support independent control and are easy to match with products; the compact shape of 1.85mm X 1.65mm X 0.6mm also adds more flexibility to product design.

  • Designed specifically for biomonitoring applications, it improves energy efficiency and is easy to use.

  • Three transmitter wavelengths, G/R/IR, enable more possible vital sign monitoring functions;

  • The green mold has a low forward voltage, Vf is typically 2.5V (≤3.0V) @20mA, and there is no need to add an additional boost on the PCB, saving material and SMT costs;

  • High-efficiency green emitter, optical power 11mW, light intensity 4.0mw/sr (~2180mcd) @20mA, reducing power consumption while ensuring the same brightness.

At the same time, ams-OSRAM has developed a highly competitive blood oxygen saturation monitoring solution. In 2020, the COVID-19 global pandemic has made the need for vital signs and blood oxygen monitoring more urgent. Blood oxygen saturation refers to the oxygen content in human blood, which is normally above 95%. In the early stages of reduced blood oxygen saturation, symptoms such as drowsiness, lack of energy, and memory loss will appear. Continued low blood oxygenation will lead to insufficient oxygen supply to the body and damage human health. Low blood oxygen is also an early symptom before some high-risk COVID-19 patients develop difficulty breathing. Continuous monitoring of blood oxygen and prompt warnings can help users or medical staff respond quickly to protect life and health.

AS7038RB: Ultra-thin blood oxygen saturation measurement sensor

  • AS7038RB integrates photodiodes, optical filters and signal processing functions into an ultra-thin package with a thickness of only 0.65mm;

  • Excellent optical performance supports medical-grade patient monitoring patches and blood oximeter applications, helping medical teams achieve remote monitoring;

  • The sensor has built-in circuitry for simultaneous ECG measurements;

  • Can be used to assist in early symptom diagnosis of COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).

In vital sign monitoring applications, ams-OSRAM’s wide range of innovative technologies can now support:

  • Non-invasive measurement of medical parameters: pulse rate, electrocardiogram (ECG), blood oxygen;

  • Other vital sign parameters derived from ECG and pulse rate: blood pressure, arterial elasticity and vagal tone;

  • Ongoing monitoring of health status as part of a preventive medicine program;

  • Development of small, highly integrated, low-cost medical-grade solutions based on optical modules and supporting algorithms.

2022 China Laser Golden Awards
- Silver Award

Award-winning product: New edge-emitting pulsed laser (EEL) SPL TL90AT03

ams Osram has launched the new edge-emitting pulse laser (EEL) SPL TL90AT03, an infrared laser for industrial lidar applications, further expanding its rich lidar product portfolio.

LiDAR (LiDAR), which stands for "Light Detection and Ranging", is a key technology for realizing autonomous driving. There are also many 3D environment detection applications in other areas outside the automotive industry. As a leading company in the development and production of infrared pulse lasers for lidar systems, ams-OSRAM has launched the SPL TL90AT03, which is suitable for industrial automation, security and covert traffic applications.

ams Osram's SPL TL90AT03 was developed specifically for short laser pulses of 5 to 100 nanoseconds. The laser achieves a light output of 65 W through a 110 m aperture at a forward current of 20 A, which equates to an excellent efficiency of approximately 34%. The device uses TO56 MetalCan advanced packaging technology. The infrared component emits light at a defined wavelength of 905 nanometers, making it suitable for both lidar applications and a variety of other applications due to its compact size.

Another advantage of this laser is that its emission width (the area where the light leaves the device) is very narrow. This can be used in compact optics, thus reducing the overall size of the system. In addition, this laser is also available in other pin configurations, such as the SPL UL90AT03.

  • TO-56 packaged pulsed laser diode

  • Laser wavelength 905 nm

  • Suitable for short laser pulses from 1 to 100ns

  • Peak power 65w
