The TPS54620 is a full-featured 17V, 6A synchronous step-down converter in a thermally enhanced 3.5mm x 3.5mm QFN package optimized for high efficiency, miniaturized designs with integrated high-side/low-side MOSFET switches. Further space savings are achieved by reducing component count through current mode control and by reducing the inductor footprint by selecting a higher switching frequency. The output voltage startup ramp is controlled by the SS/TR pin, and its operation supports both standalone power supply mode and tracking mode. Power sequencing can be achieved by properly configuring the Enable pin and the open drain power good pin. The cycle-by-cycle current limit of the high-side FET protects the device from damage during overload conditions, which is enhanced by the low-side source current limit to prevent current runaway. There is also a low-side sinking current limit that turns off the low-side MOSFET to prevent excessive reverse current from flowing in. When the die temperature rises too high, thermal shutdown circuitry turns off the part.
