The application of complex programmable logic device EPM3256E in digital communication system is introduced. The hardware circuit design of the system is given, including the design of DSP serial port expansion circuit and human-machine interface circuit. This application makes the system have sufficient redundancy and flexibility, and improves reliability and scalability. Keywords: CPLD; DSP; FLASH; Verilog-HDL language A large number of peripheral devices have put forward requirements for high data transmission efficiency, low transmission delay, high system integration, and high system maintainability for the data communication system of the photoelectric theodolite. At present, the data communication system generally uses DSP as the central processor to complete data integration and distribution. When there are many peripheral communication expansion circuits of DSP, due to the limitations of DSP\'s own control resources and external interrupt pin resources, additional integrated chips must be used, which may make the circuit too complicated. In order to achieve the scalability of the system, reduce the size of the PCB board, and improve the reliability of the entire system, the timing logic control of the system is mainly completed by complex programmable logic devices (CPLD). Programmable logic devices have the characteristics of static reprogrammability and dynamic system reconstruction, so that the functions of hardware can be modified by programming like software, which greatly improves the flexibility and versatility of electronic system design. This paper takes ALTERA\'s EPM3256E as an example to introduce its application in digital communication system based on DSP. It also elaborates on how to use CPLD to realize the logic chip selection and timing control of the system.
