The name MATLAB is a combination of the first three letters of MATrix and LABoratory. In the 1970s, Cleve Moler, then the head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of New Mexico, designed a set of \"easy-to-use\" interfaces for students to call LINPACK and EISPACK matrix software toolkit library programs in order to reduce the burden of programming. This was the embryonic MATLAB written in FORTRAN. Features of MATLAB language The language is concise and compact, easy to use and flexible, and has rich library functions. (help lang, help elfun, help elmat) Rich operators. Same as C (help ops) Structured statements, object-oriented (help lang, help uitools) The syntax restrictions are not strict, and the program design has a large degree of freedom. (Ready to use) (Easier to learn than VB) Powerful graphics functions (help graph2d graph3d) (2D curve graphics, 3D surface graphics, handle graphics, graphical user interface (GUI) programming) Symbolic calculation (differential) (help symbolic) Subject toolbox (help optim)
