The circuit shown in the figure can transmit the signal of the detected target over a longer distance. PC-1 is an infrared diode and phototransistor . When there is an object or target blocking the diode light from reaching the phototransistor, the phototransistor changes from conduction to cutoff, and is transmitted to the load (alarm device or signal light) through amplification and a second pair of infrared diodes and phototransistors as well as power amplification. The second pair of infrared diodes and phototransistors act as a failsafe.
