introduce
Here is the circuit diagram of a very simple and accurate electronic compass using the Dinsmore 1490 digital compass . The 1490 Digital Compass is a solid state Hall effect device, which is sensitive to detecting the Earth's magnetic field. The sensor is internally damped to simulate the performance of a regular compass. The circuit shown here is the simplest solution this sensor can be built into. The sensor has 12 pins arranged in sets of four on the bottom. All pins labeled 1 are connected to positive (+5 V). All the pins marked 2 are tied together and connected to ground. The pin marked 3 is the output pin. Each output pin is equivalent to an NPN transistor collecting open and can sink up to 20mA. The connection between the positive terminal (+5 V) of an LED and the output pin . The direction of 5mA.The combination can explain the LED lighting logo, the 1K resistor will limit the LED current. A typical 5V voltage regulator using IC 7805 is used to generate 5V DC in 9V battery powered circuits.
For calibrating the compass circuit, you need a regular magnetic compass. Determine north using a standard compass. Now, the rotating compass only has one LED that lights up. Take this LED north. The sensor does not have a fixed north and can actually use any output as north. If the circuit is wired exactly as shown in the circuit diagram, the other three outputs will also drop in the correct order. In my circuit the LED D4 is North. Rotating the digital compass clockwise will cause the LED to light up, in the following order, where 1 = on, 0 = off.

Precautions
Assemble a PCB with good circuit quality.
Using sub-miniature LEDs will increase battery life.
This circuit can be powered from a 9V PP3 battery.
Non-ferrous metal materials close to the sensor will affect its performance.
