DSP giant TI is a leader in the PMP field[Copy link]
Speaking of chip giants, DSP giant TI actually occupies a pivotal position in PMP. The world's first PMP was developed based on TI's DSC24 chip.
As early as 2001, Ingenient Technologies, together with TI and other companies, launched the industry's first DSP solution for video streaming multimedia terminals (see news report: http://www.ti.com.cn/news/2001/09/0929_01.asp ). In 2002, Archos took the lead in adopting Ingenient's solution to launch the world's first PMP product - Multimedia Jukebox.
At present, TI-based PMP solutions represented by Ingenient are relatively mature, with more products on the market and more complete functions. Their main features are as follows:
1) Provide a variety of the most popular recording compression and playback formats, including MPEG-4 SP, MPEG-4 ASP, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, DivX, WMV WMA V9, Quicktime 6, H.264, MPEG-4 AAC-LC, MP3, etc. Among the current design solutions in the industry, it can be said that the formats it supports are the most diverse and complete.
2) It has recording and playback functions, strong encoding and decoding capabilities, and can also have PVR functions (i.e. recording and playback can be performed in duplex mode at the same time). The DM320 PMP solution can record MPEG-4 SP at a quality of 30fps D1 (DM270 records at 30fps VGA, i.e. 640x480), and can play videos of different formats at 30fps D1 for both DM270 and DM320 (except H.264 and other formats). The solutions support USB2.0, HDD, SD, CF, MS, etc.
Currently, many well-known manufacturers that use the Ingenient solution to launch PMP products include Archos, Sony, RCA (Thomson), Iriver, Olympus, MSI, Mobinote, Neosol, etc.
Not long ago, Best PVPs evaluated that four of the five best PMP products (Top 5) use the Ingenient solution.
Detailed information on the Ingenient PMP solution is available, and DEMO demonstrations can be provided.
