Chip selection for making LED clock products [Copy link]

For the home LED clock, a low-power sleep mode chip was selected mainly to save power, but the effect of the crystal oscillator frequency on the overall current is unknown, and the parameter standards for selection are not particularly clear.

The crystal oscillator frequency has little effect on the current, but mainly affects the power consumption in sleep mode and when the LED light control circuit is not turned on.

I think we should keep the frequency as low as possible, and then lower the MCU main frequency, and choose the lowest power consumption mode that meets the needs.

Compared with the current consumed by LED, the current consumed by the microcontroller can be ignored. LED is the biggest power consumer.

The lower the crystal frequency, the lower the power consumption. Many MCUs support dual-frequency mode, which is based on high-frequency frequency during normal operation and low-frequency frequency during standby. However, clock products generally use a single frequency, 32768Hz. After all, a clock with a simple function does not require high processing power and can work directly at a low frequency.
