I signed up for the 2022 Digi-Key Innovation Design Competition in mid-April , and received a notification from eeworld at the end of May that my idea was selected into the first batch of shortlisted candidates .
After learning that I was selected, I immediately checked the Digi-Key store and found that the STM32F750-DISCO was out of stock. Then, I searched for STM32H7 boards on the Digi-Key store and found that the STM32H745-DISCO was in stock.
So I asked the eeworld forum administrator lightxixi if I could buy the STM32H745-DISCO development board as the main control, and I got a positive answer. At the same time, I got some good news - the competition cancelled the restriction that one of the three categories of materials must be selected, as long as it is available in the Digi-Key Mall; but only 600 yuan can be reimbursed, and the rest needs to be borne by myself.
Here is a reminder to other shortlisted friends that the inventory of Digi-Key Mall changes dynamically. Therefore, if you find that the material you want to purchase is out of stock before placing an order, you can choose to change the material plan and communicate with the forum administrator as soon as possible to determine whether your changed material plan can be reimbursed.
The list of materials I ordered from Digi-Key Mall:
- STM32H745-DISCO (668.13, 600 reimbursable)
Since I already had other accessories, I only ordered a development board as the main control board from the Digi-Key Mall.
After placing the order on May 24, I received the express delivery from Jie Mall in the evening of June 9.
Simple unboxing
I took some time to open a box today.
First, there is a large express packaging box (this size should be enough to hold a watermelon):
After unpacking the box, I saw a blue packaging bag and a shipping list (the bubble bag under the blue packaging bag is used for filling and shock absorption):
Unpack the blue packaging bag, it is an anti-static bag:
Remove the anti-static bag and you can see the development board clearly:
ST's classic transparent plastic package contains a development board, an expansion board, and a product introduction card.
Turn it over and you can see some information on the back of the product introduction card:
Remove the buckle on the side of the plastic package, and the first thing you see is the back of the development board:
Many chips are arranged on the board. The largest one is the main controller, which is labeled STM32H745XIH6U.
At the same time, you can also see the back of the expansion board. There is a detail here - there is a groove on the plastic cover, and the development board and expansion board are firmly buckled on it, so there is no need to worry about accidentally falling when opening it. Good review.
On the other side of the card plastic seal, you can see the front of the product introduction card:
You can see some introduction of the development board:
- Dual-core 480MHz Cortex-M7 + 240 MHz Cortex M4
- 2MB Flash
- 1MB RAM
- 4.3-inch capacitive screen
- With Arduino Uno R3 interface
- ST-LINK v3 integrated on board
- etc.
In addition, we can also see the functional introduction of the extended version.
Expanded version:
As you can see, the expansion board supports the ESP-01 WiFi module, as well as Grove and mikroBUS interfaces; and can be used for breadboard pin space.
Power on
The board comes with a factory test program, so you can directly experience some hardware functions without burning the program. You can directly experience the capacitive touch screen and the smooth UI of the high-speed CPU.
After powering on, the first thing you see is the main interface:
You can see that there are three icons in the middle of the main interface of the factory program, which are:
- Signal Generator Example
- CoreMark test
- Device Information
CoreMark running points
Since there is CoreMark, of course we have to run a score first. After clicking the EMBC icon in the middle, we see the following interface:
There is a countdown in the lower left corner. CoreMark will start after the countdown ends. You can also click the circular icon on the right to start immediately.
Here we directly click the circular icon to start the test immediately. The interface of the test process is as follows:
After a while (about 20 seconds), you can see the following interface:
As you can see, the scores of the two CPU cores are:
Well, that's the end of the unboxing. Thanks for watching, see you next time.
