Do you know the future development trend of WiFi? [Copy link]

Wi-Fi wireless network technology has always been "favored" by all walks of life. Recently, the Wi-Fi Alliance released a forecast, according to which Wi-Fi users need to achieve more efficient, reliable and secure connections in 2022, the 6 GHz band also needs regulatory approval, and remote hybrid work scenarios and complex home and enterprise connection systems, as well as the Internet of Things (IoT) environment will only continue to drive the demand for high-capacity, low-latency Wi-Fi.

Let’s take a look at the specific future development trends of WiFi.

Trend 1: Further adoption of Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E in homes and businesses / Poetry and Summer

Wi-Fi 6 will reach 50% market adoption faster than previous generations of Wi-Fi due to demand for high-quality Wi-Fi and more efficient and reliable connectivity for mobile phones, tablets, and access points (APs). In addition, enhanced performance, low latency, and higher power efficiency enable Wi-Fi 6 to meet the various needs of the Internet of Things in an unparalleled way. The increasing popularity of 6 GHz around the world and Wi-Fi 6E interoperability certification lay the foundation for a diverse Wi-Fi 6E ecosystem.

IDC Research indicates that in 2022, more than 350 million Wi-Fi 6E devices will enter the market. Whether in homes or businesses, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E will become more common in daily life. Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E solutions and mesh systems for PCs and laptops have been introduced, and we expect more Wi-Fi 6-enabled home networks, cars, IoT, and augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) solutions to enter users' hands.

In the alliance's view, Wi-Fi 6E access points will be deployed in home networks to meet the needs of bandwidth-intensive, latency-sensitive applications, and more service providers will realize that by turning Wi-Fi 6E into home gateways and access points, they can bring huge speed and capacity advantages to customers.

Trend 2: Wi-Fi Alliance promotes AFC framework

Global momentum for Wi-Fi 6E is growing every day and continues to drive more countries to use the full 1200 MHz of 6 GHz spectrum for Wi-Fi.

In 2022, Wi-Fi Alliance will continue to lead the development of the Automated Frequency Coordination (AFC) framework to ensure that the diverse ecosystem of AFC service providers can maximize the adoption of outdoor and standard power Wi-Fi 6E in areas where AFC is required. AFC systems have been adopted by the 6 GHz regulatory frameworks in Canada and the United States, and are also being considered by regulators in other countries.

The Wi-Fi Alliance has announced the release of specifications and test plans for AFC system implementations, and more than a dozen potential AFC service providers have expressed interest to the Federal Communications Commission. This year, the Wi-Fi Alliance is expected to continue to maximize the adoption of standard power and outdoor Wi-Fi 6E and accelerate the delivery of Wi-Fi 6E benefits.

Trend 3: Wi-Fi meets various IoT needs

According to Statista, the global smart home market will exceed $53 billion in 2022, driven by consumers’ desire for connected devices, security systems, and smart speakers that help save energy, time, and money. As companies invest trillions of dollars in the Internet of Things and consumers add more connected devices to their homes, Wi-Fi will further transform the smart home market in 2022.

Wi-Fi has long been the technology of choice for IoT, and now the expanded Wi-Fi IoT portfolio can better meet the diverse connectivity needs of the smart home. Wi-Fi 6 strengthens Wi-Fi as the first choice for IoT; Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E include features such as Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) to improve performance in dense environments, and Target Wake Time (TWT) to reduce battery consumption, making Wi-Fi an ideal solution for sensor-based devices.

The recently launched Wi-Fi CERTIFIED HaLow provides long-range, low-power Wi-Fi and enables a variety of new energy-efficient use cases for residential IoT and industrial IoT environments, as well as the retail, agriculture, healthcare, smart home and smart city markets. Strong WPA3 security is required for all Wi-Fi CERTIFIED devices and provides the highest protection for IoT environments.

Trend 4: Wi-Fi networks reach new levels of optimization

The increasing number of devices and users relying on video conferencing, voice over IP services, X Reality (XR) applications, and ultra-high definition (UHD) streaming in home and enterprise networks is placing additional pressure on network managers and service providers.

The additional data traffic and advanced applications used on today’s Wi-Fi networks require new levels of network optimization. The Wi-Fi CERTIFIED portfolio of network optimization technologies has made many advancements, enabling Wi-Fi in 2022 with greater mobility, greater network efficiency, and improved network visibility and management in home and enterprise networks. Optimizations including Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Easy Connect and Wi-Fi CERTIFIED EasyMesh now deliver more secure, intelligent, and efficient Wi-Fi home networks.

Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Optimized Connectivity improves mobility within and across Wi-Fi networks and when roaming between Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Wi-Fi CERTIFIED QoS Management enables robust service delivery and a high-quality Wi-Fi experience, while Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Data Elements helps service providers and network administrators better manage complex Wi-Fi networks.

In 2022, we’ll also see service providers deploy more Wi-Fi in dense, urban, and public areas with support for Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Passpoint, the foundation of the OpenRoaming framework that raises the bar for speed, security, and reliability.

The above content is excerpted from 2022: Four major trends in the Wi-Fi industry . In addition to the above trends, there are of course many other trends. Let’s discuss them together.
