How are the source files of product schematics and PCB diagrams, and the source codes of embedded programs and host computer programs managed and controlled in the company?

My previous unit used an intranet for normal work, computers could not connect to the Internet, and storage media such as USB flash drives and mobile phones were not allowed. Technical files could be effectively controlled. If external users requested files, we could generally provide schematics and PCB source files, but no embedded programs were provided to the outside world (the leaders believed that hardware design was relatively transparent and not difficult, and embedded was the core).

Nowadays, most units are relatively small, and the technical files on the external computers used for office are basically not controlled, so it is very easy for the files to be leaked outside, and the value of them may be relatively small.

The company does not control the use of the external network within the company. It only provides hardware files or some burning files (such as HEX) to customers, and does not provide source code.
