When I first started, I didn't know what DuPont wire was, so I just used a soldering iron to solder the wire (I thought it was like this, it's a joke, right?). Later, I learned about DuPont wire, and it felt 10,000 times more convenient. Of course, when buying wires, I first choose the cheap ones, because later I will have to deal with the problems of wires and have to deal with the mines of poor quality of wires many times. This year, I finally chose high-quality DuPont wires (soft silicone wires, all-copper), which cost about 1 yuan each, and finally I will not have problems with poor contact and large current drop. One dollar a piece is not cheap anymore. I bought some good quality ones from Taobao at first, but the ones I bought later were all of poor quality and smelled bad. Now I buy the wires and terminals myself, and I can decide the length, thickness, and thickness myself.

Most of the Dupont cables I have are soldered by myself, and the shortest ones have been used for more than ten years. The cables I use are very common, including ordinary wires and flat cables. Basically, I use whatever I have on hand.

Crimping Terminals

If the quantity is large, you can buy a silent terminal machine

If the quantity is small, buy a few crimping pliers and do it yourself

Or you can just buy it randomly on Taobao

I don't have much wire, and I crimp all the wire I use. You can buy a pair of SN-28B pliers to do it, and of course, a pair of wire strippers.

It’s hard to say that the quality of things in the past was good. In fact, counterfeits were most rampant ten or twenty years ago.

The key to the quality of DuPont wires is crimping, which has requirements for wire specifications, texture, crimping tools and processes. Welding can largely avoid these requirements. As long as the welding and subsequent processing are in place, the quality will be fine. This is the key to long-term use. I started using DuPont wires in the early 1990s, and if you count the wiring, it has been since the late 1980s. I also encountered quality problems in the early days. After carefully analyzing the causes and making continuous improvements, I was able to make wires that met the quality requirements soon.

There are two main points in welding DuPont wires. One is welding itself, the location of the solder joints, the amount of tinning and the use of flux. The other is to press the insulation layer of the wire after welding. If these two points are achieved, the quality of the DuPont wire will be fine, and any wire material will work just as well. The biggest disadvantage of welding DuPont wires is that it is slow, much slower than using a crimping tool, and has high requirements for welding skills, so it is only suitable for personal use and cannot be used as a means of production.

Hahahahahahahaha, I'm taking this opportunity to complain about a previous miserable experience. I once encountered two broken Dupont cables in one day (you can't tell from the appearance) and I spent the whole day looking for the problem. Later, I learned my lesson and would test the cables first every time.
