Inductor and capacitor selection for flyback circuit [Copy link]

Dear experts, how to choose the inductor and capacitor of the general flyback circuit?

If you don’t know how to choose the capacitor for the buck circuit, it will probably be difficult to choose the inductor as well.   Details Published on 2020-8-9 11:00

Wrong, it's not flyback, it's Buck

Did you build the Buck circuit yourself, or is it a ready-made chip?  Details Published on 2020-8-7 14:24

If you design it yourself, then the values of the inductor and capacitor (even the switch tube and freewheeling diode) should be calculated based on the input voltage, output voltage, PWM operating frequency, load current and its variation range. As for the selection of inductor and capacitor, the inductor needs to be able to withstand the average output current (i.e. output DC current), which is from  Details Published on 2020-8-9 09:44

If you design it yourself, then the values of the inductor and capacitor (even the switch tube and the freewheeling diode) should be calculated based on the input voltage, output voltage, PWM operating frequency, load current and its range of variation, how much ripple is allowed, etc. As for the selection of inductor and capacitor, the inductor needs to be able to withstand the average output current (that is, the output DC current), which is considered from the perspective of inductor heating and efficiency. It must also be able to withstand the peak current in the inductor, which is considered from the perspective of core saturation. Capacitors usually use aluminum electrolytic capacitors. In addition to the withstand voltage, the AC current that the capacitor can withstand must also be considered, which is also considered from the perspective of heat generation.

In fact, the considerations for the values and types of inductors and capacitors for other types of switching power supplies are similar to those for the Buck circuit.
