SensorTile.box trial (unboxing and mobile APP connection) [Copy link]

This post was last edited by symic on 2020-4-14 22:12

I was very surprised to be able to participate in the trial of ST's SensorTile.box. I have been using STM32 and STM8 development boards and have accumulated a lot of development experience. This time I received ST's sensor development kit SensorTile.box, which is very small. And from the official training video, we can see that the power consumption is also very low when working, which is very suitable for applications under the conditions of the Internet of Things.

As soon as I received the trial unit, I couldn't wait to open the package. The packaging box was still the usual ST style. After opening it, I found the SensorTile.box module ST-LINK adapter (the video said it was to adapt to the 1.8V voltage), a backplane-like shell, and a data cable. Overall, it looks very delicate.

After connecting to the power supply, the blue LED light of SensorTile.box starts flashing regularly. By installing the ST APP on the mobile phone, the module can be scanned via Bluetooth. The firmware needs to be updated for the first connection. After clicking OK, the firmware update is automatically uploaded via Bluetooth. However, the speed is relatively slow. It took about 10 minutes to complete. When reconnecting, it needs to be re-paired. The pairing PIN code is 123456. After that, you can start the trial.

Most of the apps on the phone are in English, but you can generally understand them because they are equipped with icons, which can be easily identified. I would also like to praise the simple design of the app, with white background and blue, the official color of ST, as the main color.

I have a small question. The SensorTile.box module has a battery, but after charging via USB connection, it does not show that it is not charging. I wonder if some operations are required.

The first trial article will talk about the initial experience. Before in-depth exploration, SensorTile.box has provided three development modes: entry, expert, and programming. Next time, I will start from the entry mode.

PS. It is said on the Internet that the red light will flash when the SensorTile.box module starts charging, and it usually takes 2 hours to charge. At present, I haven't seen the red light when connecting the USB cable, so there may be something wrong.

If anyone knows or has encountered this, please give me some advice. Don't talk about the knowledge from Baidu, just give me some practical experience. Thank you.   Details Published on 2020-4-22 23:00

After discharging, plug in the USB for a while and then unplug it to see how long it can work to know whether it is charged or not. Or use a multimeter to measure the battery voltage while charging. Someone posted that updating the firmware can solve the problem of his board showing 0% battery.

To charge, you need to open the box and plug in the battery cable before you can use it.
I would like to ask if anyone has used the SD card storage. Can it be directly connected to the computer USB to read? If you want to take it off and use a card reader, it will be too troublesome.

When the factory firmware is plugged into the computer, a USB flash drive will appear, which can be read and written directly, but the USB-FS speed is not very fast.  Details Published on 2020-4-16 09:24

The red light does not flash. Try updating to the latest firmware and check the battery level.

My device has no response when plugged directly into the computer. Do I need to install a driver or do something else?

Thanks, you really have to open it to find out that the battery is not connected. One more question, what is the packaging of the connector that connects the battery to the board?
