Overview
This engineering report describes a 59 V (nominal), 106 W flyback reference design for operation from 165 VAC to 264 VAC supplies. The power output is designed with constant voltage/constant current characteristics for battery charger applications. The charging circuit is optimized for lead-acid batteries. When the current drops below ~0.5 A during charging, the output voltage switches from the 59 V charge voltage to the 56 V float voltage to keep the battery charged without overcharging. This is a standard feature of lead acid battery chargers. The design is based on the TOP267EG without PFC input stage. It is designed to operate in a fan-cooled enclosure. The design utilizes air splitters to direct cooling air over the main radiator. This minimizes the heat sink size (and device size) required for TOPSwitch U1.
