Homemade 10KV electronic load

 
Overview
Commercial electronic loads are more expensive, especially high-power loads such as computer power supplies that must handle transient current spikes well above their nominal ratings (1800W spike for a 600W GPU) and should be tested under worst-case conditions to Ensure stability. Most electronic loads use MOSFET-based linear designs. However, none of the published designs achieves the worst-case sustained pulse required. This design uses a series of switched high-power chassis-mounted resistors to create arbitrary loads. This approach provides extremely high scalability, low cost, and high robustness. Although the principle is simple, the sheer size and need for high-frequency switching make it a challenging design.
