Apple's Verizon iPhone 4 uses Qualcomm chips, which may also appear in the iPhone 5 and iPad 2
iFixit and IHS iSuppli published a report yesterday pointing out that the changes in the Verizon version of the iPhone 4 are not only different in the system (CDMA), but also in the battery, vibrator, baseband chip and GPS chip. The most noteworthy thing is that even the antenna has been redesigned.
iFixit pointed out that the entire Verizon version of the iPhone 4 has actually been redesigned, including the antenna, so the previous reception dead spot problem should no longer occur.
In previous media trial reports, the Verizon iPhone 4 had much less signal loss than the AT&T version. In addition to the more stable Verizon signal, the change in basic design is also a reason.
iSuppli senior analyst Wayne Lam said that Apple maintains the basic structure of integrated antenna and closed design, but the dual-antenna design does help improve signal reception.
Other internal changes: Lam pointed out that the Verizon iPhone 4 replaced the four-year-old Infineon baseband chip with a Qualcomm product; the GPS chip was also changed from Broadcom to Qualcomm MDM600 with integrated GPS function.
According to iFixit, Apple's chip change not only saves costs, but also paves the way for the next generation iPhone 5, which can support both CDMA and GSM. The Motorola Droid Pro, which is designed to be universal, also uses the same MDM chip.
iFixit also said that the Verizon iPhone 4 uses a new 25.6-gram battery, which is lighter than the original 26.9 grams.
