Recently, according to foreign media TheLec, Samsung is currently preparing to mass-produce SSDs (solid-state drives) with PCIe 5.0 interfaces and is diversifying the supply chain for SSD testers.
Sources said Samsung recently held an open bidding meeting for an SSD tester supplier and has found a suitable candidate.
It is reported that this bidding is mainly to determine the suppliers of SSD aging testers and SSD post-testers.
The aging tester is used to test whether the storage chip still performs well under extreme conditions. Currently, all SSDs facing enterprises must undergo aging tests. After all, these hard drives will be used in high-temperature environments such as data centers, and stability is very important.
The SSD post-tester is used to detect whether the read and write performance of the SSD that is about to leave the factory is the same as the initial settings. Samsung is looking for a new supplier and does not plan to purchase from the previous supplier.
Currently, Intel and AMD are preparing to launch server processors that support PCIe 5.0 SSDs. Samsung has also produced SSDs that are compatible with the PCIe 5.0 interface and will launch them this year.
In addition, Samsung launched the PM1743 solid-state drive that supports the PCIe 5.0 interface last year. It is reported that the Samsung PM1743 has a sequential read speed of up to 13,000MB/s and a random read speed of 2,500K input/output operations per second (IOPS). Compared with previous PCIe 4.0-based products, the speed is increased by 1.7 times and 1.9 times respectively.
The write speed is also significantly improved, with a continuous write speed of 6600MB/s and a random write speed of 250K IOPS, which are 1.7 times and 1.9 times higher respectively. The significantly improved data transfer performance will allow enterprise server manufacturers using PM1743 to enjoy a better performance experience than ever before.
