Qualcomm announces two new audio platforms to help Snapdragon Sound technology continue to redefine wireless listening experiences

Shaping the future of wireless audio for music, calls and gaming use cases

Highlights:

New Snapdragon Sound features, including support for CD-quality lossless audio, stereo recording through earbuds and 25% lower latency for gaming*

New Qualcomm® Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) technology delivers superior performance compared to leading alternatives

End-to-end LE Audio experience optimized for audio sharing and broadcast use cases

Barcelona, February 28, 2022 - Qualcomm Technologies International, Ltd. today announced two new ultra-low power wireless audio platforms with rich features - Qualcomm® S5 Audio Platform (QCC517x) and Qualcomm® S3 Audio Platform (QCC307x), both of which support Snapdragon Sound™ technology. Both platforms are optimized and support dual Bluetooth modes, combining traditional Bluetooth® wireless audio with the new LE Audio technology standard.

“By leveraging the Snapdragon® 8 Mobile Platform, Qualcomm FastConnect™ 6900 and the newly announced FastConnect 7800 connectivity systems, and Snapdragon Sound, we are delivering the ultimate wireless audio experience,” said James Chapman, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Voice, Music and Wearables. “For example, in addition to being the first to support lossless audio, we’ve added an ultra-low latency gaming mode with in-game voice chat and stereo content recording for earbuds, features that we believe will bring tremendous value to a new generation of creators. On these compact platforms, we’ve integrated Qualcomm Adaptive Active Noise Cancellation technology into a dedicated hardware module, so users can experience substantial improvements in noise cancellation no matter what they are listening to.”

The two new platforms provide audio OEMs with extensive flexibility to customize their products at multiple levels, opening up more design possibilities and enabling audio devices based on these two new platforms to support additional features, including:

Snapdragon Sound technology supports:

  • 16-bit 44.1kHz CD-level lossless Bluetooth sound quality

  • 24-bit 96kHz Ultra HD Bluetooth audio quality

  • 32kHz ultra-wideband voice supports ultra-clear calls

  • Brings stereo recording function to creators, so that the recorded content has stereo effect

  • Get robust connections even in challenging RF environments

  • In game mode, audio latency is as low as 68ms and supports voice synchronous return

  • Dual Bluetooth modes, integrated LE Audio for audio sharing and broadcasting

  • Multi-point Bluetooth wireless connection, supporting easy and seamless switching between audio source devices

  • The third generation of Qualcomm adaptive active noise reduction technology, equipped with natural transparent mode

“Few companies can consistently and accurately anticipate what consumers want,” said Calum MacDougall, senior vice president of global marketing at Jabra. “Qualcomm Technologies continues to help us deliver unparalleled sound experiences, like our Elite line of true wireless earbuds, which are leading the future of wireless audio across multiple market segments.”

“Snapdragon Sound is a game-changing technology for our customers that integrates the best audio features and connectivity into our mobile devices,” said Cheng Gang, vice president of vivo and president of iQOO Global Market. “The lossless audio supported by the Qualcomm S5 Audio Platform delivers top performance without sacrificing power consumption, and its forward-thinking perspective will help us meet the needs of our customers.”

“Our customers are always looking for the latest and best wireless listening experiences,” said Lei Zhang, vice president of Xiaomi’s mobile phone division. “We are pleased to be the first mobile phone company to bring the latest Snapdragon Sound platform to our customers and continue to work with Qualcomm Technologies to redefine the future of audio experience.”

Compared with the previous generation Qualcomm wireless audio platform, the new platform achieves a rich user experience, thanks to the enhanced platform architecture that doubles the computing power and makes no compromise on ultra-low power performance.

Currently, the Qualcomm S5 Audio Platform (QCC517x) and Qualcomm S3 Audio Platform (QCC307x) are sampling to customers, and commercial products are expected to be available in the second half of 2022. Click here to learn more about the Qualcomm S5 and Qualcomm S3 Audio Platforms.
