According to the latest news, Tencent plans to acquire gaming phone company Black Shark Technology. After the acquisition, Black Shark will be integrated into the Tencent Group Platform and Content Business Group led by Ren Yuxin and will be committed to developing virtual reality hardware.
According to reports, the acquisition amount may be around 2.6 billion yuan to 2.7 billion yuan.
According to data, Black Shark Technology was founded in 2017 with investment from Xiaomi, and originally focused on gaming phones. Tianyancha information shows that Tianjin Venture Capital Industrial Co., Ltd., which is wholly owned by Xiaomi, is the major shareholder holding 46.4% of Black Shark Technology. Luo Yuzhou, co-founder and current CEO of Black Shark, was formerly the vice president of Huawei 's consumer business in China.
It is understood that as of June 22, 2021, Black Shark Technology has released 9 mobile phone products, including Shark Gaming Phone, Black Shark Gaming Phone Helo, Black Shark Gaming Phone 2, Black Shark Gaming Phone 2 Pro, Tencent Black Shark Gaming Phone 3 Series, Tencent Black Shark Gaming Phone 3S, Black Shark 4 Series, and Black Shark 4S Series.
Some media reported that after joining Tencent, Black Shark Technology's future business focus will shift to VR devices as a whole: Tencent will provide content, and Black Shark will provide VR hardware access.
