Apple supplier BOE recently converted one of its factories in China to produce larger OLED displays for devices other than smartphones, including tablets and computers, according to South Korea's The Elec website.

The report said that after becoming the supplier of iPhone 13 displays last year, BOE may aim to supply OLED displays for future iPads. The remodeled factory will be able to produce displays up to 15 inches, but whether Apple will release a 15-inch iPad remains to be seen.

In June 2021, Bloomberg said Apple had explored the idea of an iPad with a larger display, but said it would take years to release, if ever.

The report adds that the plant will be capable of manufacturing OLED displays with two red, green and blue emissive layers, which could lead to significantly brighter displays in future iPads.

However, due to the complexity of the technology, it remains to be seen whether BOE will be able to successfully commercialize these panels.

Apple currently sources OLED displays for the iPhone from Samsung and LG, but it often seeks to diversify its supply chain to reduce the risk of relying on a single supplier and ensure competitive pricing.
