Apple today began offering new high-end AMD Radeon Pro W6000 series graphics options for Mac Pro configurations, and customers who already own a Mac Pro can also purchase these graphics modules separately.
There are three new MPX modules available for Mac Pro, including the $2,100 Radeon Pro W6800X, $3,500 Radeon Pro W6800X Duo, and $4,500 Radeon Pro W6900X. Apple says customers can install up to two modules in the Mac Pro using Infinity Fabric Link technology to enhance multi-GPU performance in applications such as Final Cut Pro.
AMD announced in June that the Radeon Pro W6800 graphics module offered 79 percent faster graphics performance than the previous-generation Radeon Pro W5700, though that was based on a test system powered by an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processor rather than an Intel processor.
The current Intel-based Mac Pro was released in December 2019 in both tower and rack-mount versions. Apple is reportedly developing a new Mac Pro that will feature Apple silicon with up to 32 high-performance cores.
