On the afternoon of June 23, today, GoPro released an open API program called "Open GoPro", allowing third-party developers to integrate HERO9 Black cameras into their own apps.
With Open GoPro, developers have access to the following HERO9 Black features APIs, including:
Wireless connections
Camera Command and Control
Camera Status
Camera Preview
SD card media file viewing and transfer
Developers view demos and sample code at GoPro.com/Open GoPro. No application or approval process required.
Companies that have already been included in Open GoPro include:
Amazfit Huami Smartwatch: Use the Amazfit watch touch screen to wirelessly control your GoPro.
Centurion Boats Racing Speedboat: Wirelessly control your GoPro from the helm control screen.
OrqaFPV UAV Goggles: Use the OrqaFPV.Connect app to wirelessly control the GoPro mounted on the FPV drone, and view the camera status directly on the drone goggles.
Pixellot Sports Live Streaming: Wirelessly control GoPro cameras and manage content streaming through Pixellot’s mobile platform.
Sena Bluetooth Devices: Voice control your GoPro using the built-in microphone of the Sena Communications 50S and 50R headsets, perfect for motorcycles and other high wind noise applications.
For users, Open GoPro's corresponding functions have been supported with the release of camera firmware v1.6, which can be applied to HERO9 Black from now on. Users can update through GoPro's Quik application or GoPro's official website.
The firmware also includes the following other updates:
Improve camera startup/shutdown speed and consistency
Improve Quik app connectivity
Improved touchscreen sensitivity in menus and settings
Improves reliability when controlling the camera using "The Remote"
