After a long period of silence, Honor officially returned with its digital series flagship. On June 16, Honor, which separated from Huawei, held a press conference at the Shanghai Oriental Stadium and released the new Honor 50 series smartphones. The new phones include Honor 50 SE, Honor and Honor 50 Pro.
"In the past 211 days, Honor has been working hard and has been through a lot. We have had our darkest moments but have never been alone," said Zhao Ming. At this time last year, Honor's market share in China reached 16.7%, making it one of the top two brands in China.
Due to well-known reasons, supply encountered great difficulties, and Honor's market share was only 3% at its lowest point. He described April this year as "the darkest moment before dawn", but dawn will eventually come. At the end of May, Honor's market share had returned to 9.5%.
Zhao Ming thanked consumers, suppliers and channel retail partners at the meeting. He said that during the most difficult times, Honor's monthly shipments in the Chinese market dropped from 6 to 7 million units to a few hundred thousand units. Although the monthly supply to channel retailers was pitifully small, these channel retailers built more than 2,000 experience stores and special zones for Honor in the past few months.
Zhao Ming said that the R&D team developed the Honor 50 series 30 days ahead of its competitors, even though they received chip information 45 days later than the industry. "It is impossible to reduce the workload. They have had no holidays since the first day they received the chips."
On May 21, Honor CEO Zhao Ming stated at the "2021 Qualcomm Technology and Cooperation Summit" that since Honor became independent on November 17, 2020, Qualcomm has been one of the first manufacturers to quickly complete the supply certification for Honor and sign a comprehensive supply agreement. Honor's chip supply will be fully restored from June.
Zhao Ming said that in the future Honor will include the Magic series, digital series, and X series, and will also develop the Play system into an online sub-brand.
Visionox provides 75° super curved screen
The Honor 50 series comes in four new colors: First Snow Crystal, Summer Amber, Ink Jade Green, and Bright Black. The Honor 50 series is equipped with a 75° super curved screen as standard, which not only provides excellent visual experience when the screen is off, but also supports 1.07 billion colors, which can present 64 times richer colors than traditional mobile phones. This screen is mainly supplied by Visionox.
In addition, the Honor 50 series supports 120Hz high refresh rate, 300Hz touch sampling rate, and dynamic intelligent refresh rate adjustment. It can display at 120Hz in scenes such as scrolling and gaming, and will automatically switch to 60Hz in static e-books, browsers and other scenes, and will even switch to 30Hz when the screen is off, ensuring high refresh while also guaranteeing battery life.
Specifically, the screen designs of the Honor 50 series models are slightly different. The Honor 50 uses a 6.57-inch centered hole-punch screen, while the Honor 50 Pro is equipped with a 6.72-inch upper left corner hole-punch screen. The thickness of the two is only 7.78mm and 8.05mm respectively, which are extremely thin and light.
According to CINNO Research supply chain information, the Honor 50 series uses screens from BOE, LGD, and Visionox. It is reported that Visionox has maintained close cooperation with Honor. In the first quarter of this year, Visionox has been the main supplier of OLED screens for Honor V40. According to the official announcement, from December last year to April this year, Visionox has accumulated daily operating orders from Honor worth nearly 900 million yuan.
