There is a lot of news about Macronix selling its 6-inch wafer fab. Earlier, there were reports that Tesla and Foxconn would be the buyers. According to the latest supplier news, the sale has entered the final stage and is likely to be bought by TEL (Tokyo Electron Limited), Japan's largest semiconductor equipment manufacturer.
Taiwan media Economic Daily reported that market sources said that Tokyo Electron has signed a priority bargaining right with Macronix, and the relevant matters regarding the purchase of the factory have been discussed with Macronix in the final stage. It is reported that the purchase price is about NT$2.8 billion, which is higher than the manufacturers previously reported by the market to be interested in purchasing.
Tokyo Vico Creative's factory in Macronix. The production equipment and machines in the factory will be purchased, disassembled by semiconductor equipment manufacturers in Taiwan, and then resold to semiconductor manufacturers in mainland China.
However, there are still reports that manufacturers in Hsinchu Science Park are willing to pay NT$3 billion for the purchase. In response, Macronix said it would not comment on market rumors and would follow the previously scheduled sale schedule, which will be confirmed at the end of the second quarter of this year.
