Apple's streaming music service Apple Music added support for spatial audio on Monday, and Apple has begun rolling out the feature to subscribers.

During its 2021 Worldwide Developers Conference keynote, Apple said it would enable spatial audio in Apple Music. The feature was originally announced on May 17 along with lossless audio.

According to Apple senior engineering program manager Gagan Gupta, “We recently announced spatial audio for Apple Music with the incredible multi-dimensional sound experience of Dolby Atmos, and we’re excited to have it available today.”

Apple says "tens of thousands" of songs will use the feature at launch, with songs from artists like Ariana Grande and Maroon 5 offering Dolby Atmos support. Listeners can hear music in a simulated 3D audio space, with the depth and directionality of the audio adjusting as the user moves their head.

To use the spatial audio feature, users need to use AirPods, AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, or Beats headphones equipped with H1 or W1 chips.

Apple Music isn’t the only app to get spatial audio. Apple said during its WWDC21 keynote that iOS 15 will bring spatial audio support to FaceTime, and that macOS Monterey and tvOS 15 will also support the feature.
