Lisa Su: Chip shortage is not a disaster, it is just a cyclical imbalance between semiconductor supply and demand

On Wednesday local time, AMD announced a $4 billion stock repurchase plan, its first repurchase since 2001. AMD CEO Lisa Su said in an interview with Bloomberg that we are in a very competitive market and AMD has great ambitions for what we want to do.

Su, the first woman to become CEO of a major chip company, said her main achievement is to win AMD's new reputation and the trust of its customers.

The executive revived AMD's reputation and performance at a critical time for the industry, as the pandemic accelerated demand for equipment for remote work and learning. Su said the recent chip shortage is not a disaster, but just another example of the cyclical imbalance between supply and demand in the semiconductor market. For the chip industry, it makes customers more willing to accept long-term commitments.

"Usually everyone plans their own blueprint separately, but now we really have to plan the world together," she said. Su Zifeng expects AMD's chip supply to improve throughout 2021.
