LG Electronics has been teasing its futuristic rollable smartphone since last year, but now the company appears to have paused development of that device, as well as two other innovative phones.

According to BizChosun, LG has stopped the development of three OLED display projects. These displays were supposed to be installed on upcoming innovative smartphones, including LG's roll-up screen phone, as well as other foldable devices. In addition, these projects were also co-developed by well-known display manufacturer BOE. BOE is reportedly currently reviewing a claim for LG's development costs.

The main reason for the company to suspend the development of its smartphone project could be the lagging of its mobile division. The brand’s sales have been lackluster over the past few years, and to combat this, LG had intended to launch innovative devices in the future, but weak sales of phones like the LG Wing may have influenced the company’s decision.

During the 2021 Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2021), LG unveiled its first rollable smartphone, a phone with a screen that can expand or shrink in size.
