Samsung Display reportedly sells 8th-generation LCD production line equipment in South Korea to TCL Huaxing

 On February 1, Korean media Fnnews quoted a source in the financial investment industry as saying that YMC and Chinese panel manufacturer TCL Huaxing completed the evaluation of SDC's remaining LCD production lines since July last year, and planned to sign a contract for the sale and relocation of the LCD production lines in the first quarter of this year.

Samsung Display's 8th generation LCD line has COA (Color Filter on Array) technology. Industry insiders said: Chinese manufacturers have paid close attention to this line before, and the manufacturer most likely to win this line will be TCL Huaxing.

Samsung Display announced in March 2020 that it would shut down its LCD production line by the end of 2020 to focus on new display technologies such as OLED, QLED, and Micro LED. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic stimulated the development of the "stay-at-home economy", demand for TVs and laptops surged, causing LCD panel prices to continue to rise since June 2020. As of now, prices of most TV panels have risen by more than 60%. Samsung Display's plan to shut down its LCD production line has also been extended from the end of March 2021 to an indefinite period.

As the shutdown of LCD production lines is postponed, industry insiders are worried that Samsung Display's plan to sell LCD equipment will also be delayed. However, forecasters still believe that it will be completed before March this year.
