ByteDance adjusts its hardware business, and the Hammer Nut smartphone is gone

After several twists and turns, the Hammer Nut phone may have to say goodbye.

According to LatePost, ByteDance recently announced on a small scale that the Xinshi Laboratory formed by the original Smartisan Technology team will be incorporated into the education hardware team headed by Yang Luyu, the original founder of Musical.ly, and Yang Luyu will report to Chen Lin, senior vice president of ByteDance and head of education business.

It is reported that the merged hardware team will focus on the education field and will no longer develop other unrelated products such as Nut phones and TNT monitors.

This means that ByteDance has pressed the pause button on its mobile phone business.

At the end of 2018, ByteDance acquired the Nut team and some patent usage rights of Smartisan Technology for more than 100 million yuan and established Xinshi Lab. The educational hardware team merged with Xinshi Lab also came from acquisition: in November 2017, after ByteDance acquired Musical.ly for US$1 billion, one of the founders, Yang Luyu, joined ByteDance.

In response to the above news, the relevant person in charge of ByteDance Education said: We are optimistic about the prospects and value of educational hardware. In order to enhance the research and development capabilities of the educational hardware team, Xinshi Lab will merge with the desk lamp team to form the Dali Intelligent Team, focusing on educational hardware. The services for Nut phone users will not be affected, and the team will continue to explore innovative opportunities for Smartisan OS to give users a better experience.
