According to foreign media reports, up to now, I believe everyone has heard a lot about Samsung's upcoming Galaxy SmartTag locator, but today, Winfuture released more information about this Bluetooth LE tracker. We already know that Samsung will release the Galaxy SmartTags tracker at an event this week.
With this device, Samsung will join Apple, which is also reportedly working on its own Tile-like object tracker. Apple AirTag will be the first object tracking device built by the company, while Samsung released its first LTE-enabled tracking device two years ago.
The tracker is powered by a replaceable coin cell battery (battery life is 280 days) and has a button that sounds a tone on the user's phone, which in turn sounds an audible alert via the ringtone on the SmartTag.
If the device is not within Bluetooth range, the tag can still be widely located, but Samsung has launched a grid-based smart item location network, which means that the other 1 billion Samsung users will be able to help you find your lost items, no matter where in the world it is. For security, Galaxy SmartTag will use end-to-end encryption and Privacy ID.
The SmartTags measure 4cmx4cmx1cm, weigh 13g and are available in black, oatmeal, denim blue and mint. They are IP53 certified.
These devices require a Samsung Galaxy smartphone running at least Android 8 or above.
SmartTags are expected to cost around $17 and will be released tomorrow (January 14th, local time).
