A new report from Flurry Analytics says that 9 out of every 10 smartphones activated in the United States on Christmas Day 2020 were iPhones.
According to the data, iPhone 11 was the most activated device on Christmas Day, with an activation rate 5% higher than the average level between December 18 and December 24. This is the second consecutive year that iPhone 11 has topped the list, followed by iPhone XR. The leading high-end device is iPhone 12 Pro Max, which continues to have "strong and persistent demand."
This ranking is in line with normal trends, as Apple's new high-end devices usually only surge around the time of their launch. The iPhone 12 gained ground as users gradually replaced their existing devices in the months following its launch.
The only non-Apple device to make the top 10 was LG's budget K30 smartphone. Overall, Flurry believes that the success of models like the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR over the past few years suggests that U.S. consumers are more price-sensitive this holiday season.
This year, Christmas smartphone activations were down 23% year-over-year, and Flurry speculates that this could be due to a number of reasons, including economic issues and limited family gatherings.
