On December 5, 2020, the Greater Bay Area Integrated Circuit Industry-Education Integration Talent Training Summit Forum and the unveiling ceremony of the Guangdong University of Technology's School of Microelectronics were held at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Convention Center.

Director Yun Danping, a first-level researcher at the High-tech Department of the Guangdong Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Professor Yan Xiaolang, leader of the expert group for the construction of the National Demonstration Microelectronics College, Professor Shi Longxing, chief professor of Southeast University and president of Nanjing Integrated Circuit University, Mr. Ding Huiwen, general manager of Shanghai Institute of Microtechnology Industry, Mr. Liu Weiping, chairman of Beijing HuaDa JiuTian Software Co., Ltd., Mr. Chen Wei, president of Guangdong Integrated Circuit Industry Association and founding chairman of the Semiconductor Industry Alliance of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, Mr. Ding Ran, chief technology officer of Zhuhai Allwin Technology Co., Ltd., Professor Qiu Xueqing, president of Guangdong University of Technology, Yu Lin, vice president of Guangdong University of Technology, and Xiong Xiaoming, dean of the School of Microelectronics of Guangdong University of Technology, jointly unveiled the School of Microelectronics of Guangdong University of Technology.


Guangdong University of Technology is a provincial key university with engineering as its main discipline, combining engineering, science, economics, management, liberal arts, and arts, and developing in a coordinated manner across multiple disciplines. As early as the beginning of this century, the university opened an undergraduate major in "Electronic Science and Technology", and has successively opened a number of majors, including "Electronic Information Science and Technology", "Integrated Circuit Design and Integrated Systems", "Microelectronics and Solid-State Electronics", "Integrated Circuit Engineering", and "Microelectronics Science and Engineering".

The school has established "cross-unit, cross-college, cross-professional" special classes with more than 20 enterprises and research institutes such as Allwinner, Spreadtrum, MediaTek, and the Fifth Institute of Electronics to jointly train professionals in the field of integrated circuits. It has many well-known experts in the field of integrated circuits, and has built the only "Precision Electronic Manufacturing Technology and Equipment" National Key Laboratory in the field of electronic manufacturing in China, "Guangzhou National Modern Service Industry Integrated Circuit Design Industrialization Base", "Guangdong Province High-end Application Electronic Chip and System Collaborative Innovation Center" and other scientific research and teaching platforms related to integrated circuits.

In 2019, it took the lead in undertaking three national key R&D plan projects with a project funding of nearly 100 million yuan. The projects mainly focused on emerging strategic fields such as new generation communications and information technology, and tackled key core technologies such as third-generation semiconductors and fiber optic sensors.

Qiu Xueqing, president of Guangdong University of Technology, said at the conference that integrated circuits, as the core of the information technology industry, are strategic, basic and leading industries that support the country's economic and social development and safeguard national security. In July 2020, the State Council Academic Degrees Committee decided to set up a first-level discipline of integrated circuits, which will play a very important role in cultivating integrated circuit talents and will greatly promote the rapid development of my country's integrated circuit industry. Guangdong University of Technology has many good conditions for the development of integrated circuit disciplines. Taking advantage of the national and provincial support for the development of the integrated circuit industry, the school established the School of Microelectronics to integrate resources from multiple parties and refine the direction of the discipline. 

On behalf of the Guangdong Integrated Circuit Industry Association, President Chen Wei congratulated the establishment of Guangdong University of Technology Microelectronics College. He introduced the situation of Guangdong's integrated circuit industry and talent demand, and welcomed the interactive and joint development of industrial talent training from all over the country with the Guangdong integrated circuit industry.

It is reported that the School of Microelectronics of Guangdong University of Technology will promote the development of the semiconductor and integrated circuit industry in our province from four aspects:

1. Talent cultivation: The college will adjust the microelectronics-related majors and corresponding teaching plans, expand the enrollment scale of microelectronics, and focus on the cultivation of integrated circuit talents; at the same time, it will promote the introduction of the college's undergraduate-master's and master-doctoral teaching plans, and clarify the college's teaching goals and students' study plans as early as possible.

2. Public platform: The college will carry out in-depth cooperation with the Guangzhou IC Base to upgrade and promote the existing chip design and EDA public service platforms.

3. Continuing education and training: In response to social needs, we provide classified training for integrated circuit "design, manufacturing, and testing" talents for enterprises.

4. Technological innovation: Cooperate with research institutes and enterprises to carry out technological research and break through key "bottleneck" technologies.

It will build four innovation laboratories to support the college's technological innovation: 1. Artificial intelligence-assisted EDA laboratory. Cooperate with HuaDa JiuTian and others to break through the "bottleneck" technology; 2. SoC system design laboratory. Cooperate with Huawei, Allwinner and others to improve students' design level in "actual combat"; 3. Chip manufacturing joint laboratory. Cooperate with Guangdong Xin and others to cultivate chip manufacturing talents that are "urgently needed and urgently needed" in Guangdong Province; 4. Chip testing joint laboratory. Cooperate with the Fifth Institute of Electronics and others to jointly promote the quality improvement of electronic products in our province
