According to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce, Apple has decided not to bundle power adapters and wired EarPods with the upcoming iPhone 12 models, which is consistent with previous rumors.
TrendForce points out that the iPhone 12 models will be more expensive for Apple to produce due to the addition of 5G support, so removing these accessories from the box would be a way to reduce costs. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple plans to launch a new 20W fast charger for the iPhone 12, which will be sold separately.
The analyst also said that the price of the iPhone 12 series will be similar to the iPhone 11 series. Apple may "brag" about the environmental benefits of iPhone 12 models without chargers and EarPods, as this move may make the packaging thinner, less wasteful, and reduce emissions during manufacturing and transportation. From a business perspective, this move may also increase AirPods sales.
Apple still plans to include a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box with its upcoming iPhones, according to Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis.
New iPhones usually start shipping in late September, and Apple recently said that this year's shipments will be delayed by a few weeks. According to leaker Jon Prosser, Apple plans to launch new Apple Watch and iPad models in a September press release, and then launch new iPhones at an event in October.
