On the evening of July 3, the international standards organization 3GPP announced the freezing of the R16 standard, marking the completion of the first evolutionary version of the 5G standard.
It is understood that R16 is the first technical standard in the history of 3GPP to be completed through non-face-to-face meeting review. The international standards organization 3GPP has frozen the first version of 5G R15 in 2018. During the formulation process of R15, efforts were made to produce a "usable" standard as quickly as possible to meet the basic functions of 5G in many aspects.
This time, the R16 standard not only enhances the functions of 5G, allowing 5G to further enter various industries and give birth to new digital ecological industries, but also takes into account more factors such as cost, efficiency, and effectiveness, so that communication infrastructure investment can be more effective, allowing 5G to achieve a leap from "usable" to "easy to use".
It is worth noting that as a mobile terminal manufacturer, OPPO actively participated in the standardization of the 5G evolution version (Release 16) and made a lot of contributions, including multiple technical features such as multi-antenna, terminal energy saving, two-step random access, industrial Internet of Things, unlicensed frequency bands, Internet of Vehicles, carrier aggregation/dual connection enhancement, mobility enhancement, etc., and played an important role in multi-antenna technology, industrial Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles and other terminal-related technical fields. In the 5G evolution version (Release 16), OPPO jointly led the research on MIMO OTA technology that terminals are concerned about and successfully transformed it into a standardization work project. In the entire 5G evolution version, OPPO has produced more than 1,500 manuscripts, making outstanding contributions to the 5G industry.
According to Jiwei.com, OPPO has always advocated respecting and protecting its own and third-party intellectual property rights. Over the years, OPPO has reached in-depth intellectual property cooperation agreements with communications giants such as Qualcomm, Nokia, and Ericsson. As a world-leading technology company, OPPO also attaches great importance to technological innovation, and continues to gradually improve its global patent layout through patent protection of self-developed technologies and patent acquisition of high-value technologies.
According to public information: OPPO's global patent applications have exceeded 40,000, and the number of global authorizations has exceeded 15,000. It also has a good patent layout and accumulation in many key areas such as 5G, fast charging, imaging, and AI.
In particular, in the field of 5G communication standard patents, the NGB report shows that OPPO has declared 980 5G standard patent families worldwide, compared to 647 less than half a year ago, a growth rate far exceeding the average level of 51.5%. The 5G patent report released by IPlytics in April 2019 shows that as of April 2019, OPPO has only declared 207 5G standard patent families, which means that the number of 5G standard patent families declared by OPPO has nearly quadrupled in the past year!
