At the China Display Conference 2020 held today, Chinese panel manufacturers TCL and Visionox successively explained their views on the next generation of display technology. Visionox believes that future display products will develop from DCI-P3 to BT2020 (DeepBlue), and will have better performance in HDR, low power consumption, high refresh rate, low blue light and reflectivity.
In addition to the performance trends of flexible display products, Li Junfeng, director of Visionox Innovation Institute, also said that curling and sliding will be the mainstream forms of the next generation of flexible displays. However, the development difficulty of the curling form is much greater than that of the folding and sliding forms, and it poses challenges to both module materials and drive layer design.
In addition, from the morphological development trend chart displayed by Visionox, it can be seen that the industry will develop towards "fully flexible display" in the future, that is, the screen can be folded or stretched along any axis.
The stretchable display has a richer range of application scenarios, including electronic skin, wearable electronics, and functional sensor integration. It is worth mentioning that the South Korean government plans to promote stretchable display panel technology this year, with LG Display participating and setting a goal of producing 20% stretchable panels by 2024.
In this regard, Li Junfeng pointed out that according to the latest research of the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, the maximum substrate stretching rate reaches 30%, which means that the stretchable display market has great room for development.
In addition, Li Junfeng also said that medium size is an inevitable trend in the development of the industry, and bi-fold, multi-fold mobile phones, tablets and laptops are all potential areas of use.
