According to Taiwanese media reports, Yang Mincong, chairman of wafer thinning foundry Sun Semiconductor, said today that although the Sino-US trade war has intensified again and the epidemic has not yet stopped, the demand for recycled wafers from major customers has not changed, and the demand for goods is still continuing. Sun Semiconductor expects that its plan to expand its production capacity of 12-inch recycled wafers by 60,000 pieces in the second half of the year will proceed as scheduled.

It is understood that TSMC is the main customer of Sun Semiconductor's recycled wafers. As TSMC begins mass production of 5nm, the demand for recycled wafers for testing has also increased. Although Yang Mincong did not specify the customer, he pointed out that despite the escalation of the Sino-US trade war and the continued outbreak of the epidemic, customers have not reduced their orders for recycled wafers, and the pull force has not changed. Sun Semiconductor's expansion plan has not changed. It is expected that the number of 12-inch recycled wafers will increase from the current 240,000 to 300,000 in the third quarter, that is, an increase of 60,000 monthly production capacity.

Wafer thinning is related to power semiconductors. Yang Mincong said that the industry is closely linked, and international manufacturers have ups and downs. At present, there is no worry about the supply chain disruption, but the epidemic may affect the demand for terminal products such as mobile phones. Some customers are more conservative, which affects the pull of goods. It is still difficult to predict the situation in the second half of the year, because customers change their minds at will, and it is difficult to guarantee. We can only say that the current visibility is very low, but we still hope that the second half of the year will be better than the first half.
