According to foreign media reports, since the outbreak of the new coronavirus pandemic, global demand for personal computers (PCs) has surged in the first quarter of 2020, but market research firm Canalys pointed out that despite this, supply chain problems caused by the spread of the new coronavirus have actually caused PC shipments to fall 8% year-on-year, with Apple's decline reaching 21%.

Canalys reported that in the first quarter of 2020, the total number of PC shipments was 53.7 million units, down 8% from the same period last year, the lowest since 2016 (12%). Rushabh Doshi, research director of Canalys, said that although PC products were very popular in the first quarter, PC manufacturers were unable to meet market demand due to many factors.

Rushabh Doshi further pointed out that Intel's slow pace of 10nm process development has slowed down the supply of Intel processors, and the delayed resumption of work at factories during the Chinese Spring Festival has made the situation worse.

According to the report, Lenovo and HP ranked the top two in the global PC market in the first quarter with shares of 23.9% and 21.8% respectively; Dell ranked third with 19.6%; and Apple's share of the global PC market was only 6%.

It is expected that only Dell will achieve an annual growth rate of 1.1%, while other companies will have negative annual growth, with Apple expected to have the largest decline of -21%.
