After owning seven or eight pairs of TWS earphones, ordinary, featureless TWS earphones no longer interest me.
If I count them carefully, I have in-ear and semi-in-ear models, three pairs with noise reduction, products from major digital manufacturers such as Samsung, Sony, Apple, and OPPO, as well as B&O, and even products from Bird and Mobvoi. More than half of them were bought by me, and I even bought several sets of Comply sponge covers in different sizes.
The more headphones I have seen and heard, the more I realize that there are too many imitations and plagiarisms in this industry, and they all look similar. No matter how much they talk about their technical features, I am no longer willing to face products without any characteristics.
In addition to ensuring basic listening quality, the appearance design and the overall texture performance are what I value more.
I have been longing for Master&Dynamic's previous MW07 for a long time, and I finally got the upgraded model MW07 Plus recently. I am really a little excited.
Don't doubt it, the mirror design is beautiful
The features of Master&Dynamic's new MW07 Plus are obvious at a glance, and this unique appearance is unique among TWS headphones.
From the model number, we can tell that MW07 Plus is an upgraded version of the previous MW07. In fact, there is no change in appearance, including the packaging.
Although it is a New York brand and an American product, the packaging box has a cold Nordic magazine feel, and it doesn't seem to be out of place even if it is from the same school as B&O.
As before, the MW07 Plus comes with quite a lot of accessories, mainly three pairs of replaceable fixed wings, six pairs of replaceable rubber plugs and a dedicated velvet storage bag. This storage bag is quite interesting. To open it, you need to use force to deform the opening, and it will tighten automatically at other times.
Of course, a USB-C cable is also included for charging the earphones, and this cable is C to C.
Half of the "beauty" of MW07 Plus is reflected in the box. The metal stainless steel box has a mirror reflection effect, which is very beautiful and dazzling.
This mirror design can be seen on the X30 Pro co-branded by vivo and Alexander Wang, and on the Xperia Z5 Premium Mirror Silver version. These are all made of glass to create mirror reflections. Further ahead, there is the stainless steel back of the iPod Touch, which is also a well-received excellent design.
But! Beauty fades with age, and this design has a drawback that is really frustrating. Even if you take good care of it, you will most likely see a lot of scratches after a week.
In fact, after I took the pictures of the appearance, I kept it in the protective case most of the time. But when I took it out to use it a few days ago, I saw that there were many scratches on the bottom. It should be caused by frequent moving on the table when I took the pictures before.
Another problem is that the mirror surface is really a fingerprint collector. It will definitely leave a fingerprint. This has nothing to do with whether you like cleanliness or whether your hands sweat, unless you wear rubber gloves when using it on a daily basis.
Simply put, you can think of this charging box as a vase, which can only be used for viewing. It is not very practical because it will be scratched quickly if you are not careful, but personally, this design really appeals to me.
The other half of the "beauty" lies in the earphones themselves. The shape of the earphones is no different from MW07, and the surface uses a rock-textured design. The white color I chose is similar to marble and is also very beautiful.
The surface material of the earphones is acetate, and the pattern on each earphone sold is not exactly the same. Different colors and textures bring different feelings, and the surface is also treated with a layer of glossy surface to make the texture of the rock more prominent.
Battery life is greatly enhanced, and active noise reduction is added
In terms of sound, I like the Sony noise-canceling beans that I adjusted the equalizer settings myself, but in terms of wearing, the noise-canceling beans are the last. The wearing experience of MW07 Plus is much better than I expected, probably because of the fixed wings, it fits my ears very firmly. However, since everyone's concha cavity is more or less different, I can't guarantee that you will have the same experience when wearing it.
When you take it out of the box for the first time, it will enter pairing mode. Although there are no cool animations, it is still convenient to use. Compared with the torturous pairing method of B&O, at least MW07 Plus will not let you have any obstacles when you use it for the first time.
As a New York brand, the simple and rough American style is not only reflected in their preference for dynamic tuning, but also in their commonality of not liking to use apps. Neither the previous Buttons Air nor the MW07 Plus have apps that can be connected for use, let alone various switches and equalizer adjustments like Sony's noise-canceling beans.
The absence of an app means that all the operating functions of the MW07 Plus are integrated into the headset itself. There is a slightly longer button on the "L" side, which serves as the volume adjustment, and there is a small button on the "R" side, which is used for pause/play.
More functions require long press or continuous press to achieve, for example, long press the volume up button to turn on the ambient sound mode, for example, press the right ear twice in a row to switch to the next song, three times to go back to the previous song, and so on.
This time, the MW07 Plus has two most important upgrades compared to the previous MW07. The first is the addition of ANC active noise reduction, and the second is that the single-time battery life has been greatly enhanced to 10 hours. The total battery life of the on-board charging box reaches 40 hours.
Improving battery life is simple and direct, and reducing the frequency of charging is a good thing, but there are also problems. Because there is no app to check the battery level, we can only judge the approximate remaining power from the three indicator lights on the front of the box. It is still a bit painful to forget to charge when you want to use it. By the way, this charging box does not support wireless charging.
The addition of active noise reduction is a good thing, and you can activate it by long pressing the volume down button, but you still have to lower your expectations. Because it only provides feedforward active noise reduction, although the effect can be felt, it is indeed not as obvious as the noise reduction beans and AirPods Pro.
I have experienced the noise reduction effect a little bit. In the middle of the night, there will be background noise from vehicles driving on the road. Usually, it can still be heard clearly at a distance of dozens of meters. After turning on the active noise reduction, the noise on the road can basically be completely eliminated.
But please note that first, it was at night, and there were not many vehicles. Second, I was not on the roadside, but about 30 meters away. However, it was also because it was quiet at night that the noise from the road stood out.
It's better to have it than nothing. This is probably the default level of Qualcomm chips, but it can still be a selling point overall.
In terms of sound, I prefer a more "heavy" style with vocals in the front and a larger amount of low frequencies. So the Galaxy Buds tuned according to the Harman curve sound good, but it is indeed a bit "bland" for me personally.
The tuning of MW07 Plus is more in line with my taste. I will further highlight the vocals on the noise-canceling beans and increase the low-frequency volume, so there is no need to worry that this New York brand sounds like a low-end product.
But it is true that the separation is not enough in music with more instruments, so the portrayal of sound details is not very delicate. Overall, it should be the same listening experience as MW07. It is not suitable for those who like to listen to music with instrumental sounds. Moreover, although the vocals are relatively forward, they are not very full.
In general, the tuning of MW07 Plus is still relatively balanced. Although it is not completely in line with my personal taste, it is a good performance overall. Please note that this is based on the premise that my personal taste is heavier recently and I find AirPods Pro difficult to hear.
No need to bundle with LV, still looks good and worth it
Even though this is the same model that LV released in January this year, I personally don’t want to associate Master&Dynamic with LV. LV’s brand halo is too big, and a pair of Bluetooth headphones can be so luxurious that they cost more than $1,000.
Master&Dynamic is itself. It doesn’t matter if it doesn’t have a high-end leather charging box. The design of the mirror charging box also wins my heart. It doesn’t have the iconic LV pattern, but it has its own equally beautiful marble pattern.
The price of $299 is not cheap, but I am willing to put it on the same level as brands such as B&O and Sennheiser. They each have their own unique and excellent texture, so Master&Dynamic MW07 Plus is also a unique star in my eyes.
