Today, the third-party market research organization Counterpoint released a data report on smartphones in the Indian market in 2019. Let’s take a look:

Data shows that although Xiaomi has dropped by 1 percentage point compared with the same period last year, it still leads the Indian market with a market share of 26%.

Following closely behind is the international giant Samsung, which ranks second with a market share of 20%, a drop of 3 percentage points compared with the same period last year.

Ranked third is vivo. Compared with 10% in the same period last year, in the third quarter of this year, vivo's market share soared by 7% to 17%, narrowing the gap with the top two, Xiaomi and Samsung.

The rankings of the fourth and fifth places are interesting. In the third quarter of last year, realme ranked fifth with a market share of 3%. In the third quarter of this year, realme made a strong effort and its market share soared by 13%, directly surpassing its parent brand OPPO and coming to the fourth place.

Unlike the sub-brand Realme, which is enjoying great success, the market share of the parent brand OPPO has remained stagnant. It was 8% in the third quarter of last year and it was still 8% in the third quarter of this year. The change in market share is really stable.

It is worth mentioning that if the market shares of realme and OPPO are combined, the market share of OPPO will be as high as 24%, surpassing Samsung in one fell swoop and approaching Xiaomi, coming to the runner-up position. I don’t know when the research institutions will merge the market shares of the two. This is something that Xiaomi, the Indian overlord, needs to be vigilant about.
