While Huawei's P20 Pro and this year's P30 Pro are amazing cameras, they're not as strong at recording videos as they are at taking photos. This is partly because the Kirin 970 and Kirin 980 chipsets don't support 4K 60fps video recording, but the next generation of phones is expected to change that.
According to Neowin, at the recent Huawei Developer Conference, Huawei confirmed that the Kirin 990 processor will support 4K 60fps video recording. The processor will be installed in Huawei's upcoming Mate 30 series new phone, which is rumored to be launched on September 19.
Huawei has also confirmed that the Kirin 990 will also be included in next year's P40, as well as various other premium smartphones, such as some of the Honor smartphones.
Several of Huawei’s competitors have been able to record at 4K 60fps for a few years now. First came Apple’s iPhone 8, 8 Plus, and X in the fall of 2017. Later came Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset, and then Samsung’s Galaxy S9 series in the spring of 2018.
