According to China Daily, an AI trash can that can automatically sort trash has been officially put into use on the Zhangjiang Artificial Intelligence Island in Shanghai. The trash can uses solar energy or plug-in devices to identify 95% of recyclable trash types, and will be updated at the end of August to identify hazardous waste. Currently, more than 30 have been put into use, mainly in crowded areas, offices and public places.
It is reported that this type of trash can will appear at the Artificial Intelligence Conference on August 29, and it is planned to put 2,000 of them on the market before the end of the year.
On July 1 this year, the "Shanghai Municipal Domestic Waste Management Regulations", known as the "strictest" waste classification measure in history, was officially implemented. According to the regulations, individuals or units that fail to classify waste in accordance with regulations will face penalties. At the same time, many places across the country have also gradually entered the "mandatory era" of waste classification.
According to the Regulations, Shanghai's domestic waste is divided into four categories: recyclables, hazardous waste, wet waste, and dry waste. Individuals or units that fail to sort and dispose of waste in accordance with regulations will face penalties. In addition to a fine of more than 50 yuan but less than 200 yuan for individuals who mix waste, the Regulations stipulate that units that fail to sort and dispose of waste in accordance with regulations may be fined up to 50,000 yuan.
If domestic waste collection and transportation units and disposal units fail to comply with the relevant regulations, they may be fined up to 100,000 yuan and 500,000 yuan respectively, and in serious cases, their business licenses may be revoked. In addition, the Regulations also establish a system of punishment for breach of trust.
