The global mobile phone market shipment report for the first quarter of 2019 released by the international market research organization IDC shows that Xiaomi's global mobile phone shipments in Q1 totaled 25 million units, a year-on-year decline of more than 10%, ranking fourth.
However, the data was far different from Xiaomi's official data. Xiaomi subsequently issued an announcement to clarify the matter.
On May 2, Xiaomi Group announced that the company shipped more than 27.5 million smartphones in the first quarter of 2019. Xiaomi said in the announcement that the forecast data of some research institutions on our smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2019 were wrong, unfair, and far from the actual situation. In order to avoid misleading investors, the company hereby announces that according to our management accounts, our smartphone shipments in the first quarter of 2019 exceeded 27.5 million units.
According to domestic media reports, on May 4, IDC responded to the Xiaomi mobile phone shipment data error. IDC said that it will update the data next week and update Xiaomi's first quarter shipment data to 27.5 million units, which is consistent with the data officially released by Xiaomi.
As for why the deviation occurred, IDC said that its original data was released before Xiaomi's official announcement came out.
