The IP rating is the level of protection of the outer shell of electrical equipment against the intrusion of foreign objects, and IP68 is one of the highest dust and water resistance specifications.

　　When the new Huawei P30pro phone with IP68 waterproof function fell into the water, its user, Mr. Wu, quickly picked it up, thinking it should be no big deal. However, five minutes later, the phone automatically shut down and could no longer be started.

　　Huawei's official customer service explained that the "IP68" rating of this phone requires certain experimental conditions to be obtained. The other party said that if the entire phone falls into water, it may be damaged to varying degrees.

　　On the market, it is not uncommon to see products claiming to meet IP68 dust and water resistance specifications. Mr. Wu, a citizen, bought such a P30pro phone in Huawei Mall. The official propaganda shows that "exquisite craftsmanship creates an IP68-level dust and water-resistant body."

　　However, he was a little troubled these days because this new mobile phone with advanced waterproof function "broke down" shortly after he fell into the toilet and was quickly picked up.

　　"After the phone fell into the toilet, I immediately picked it up and wiped it. Five minutes later, the phone automatically shut down and could not be turned on. There was moisture on the camera, and I realized that the phone was soaked in water." Mr. Wu said that the incident happened on April 18. He was cleaning the toilet at the time and the phone accidentally fell into the water from his pocket. "The water was clean because I had almost finished washing it."

　　Mr. Wu bought this Huawei P30Pro phone for 5,988 yuan on April 11, and he had only used it for a short time. When the phone stopped working, he immediately sent it to a nearby Huawei official after-sales store, and also checked the official website for the introduction of the "IP68" dust and water resistance function.

　　Huawei's official website shows: IPXX refers to the level standard of product safety protection, which defines the device's ability to protect against water and solid foreign objects. The first two digits after IP are the protection level against access to dangerous parts and against the entry of solid foreign objects, ranging from 0-6, from low to high, representing protection from large foreign particles to dust; the second is the protection level against water ingress, ranging from 0-8, from low to high, representing protection from vertical water drops to underwater pressure.

　　The official website also states in its definition of IP68 that "it means protection against continuous immersion. Under normal temperature and pressure, when the housing is temporarily immersed in water at a depth of 1.5m for 30 minutes, no harmful effects will be caused."

　　Official store: Both parties will start negotiations

　　Although he did not expect his phone to remain unaffected after being submerged for 30 minutes, Mr. Wu could not accept that his new phone was damaged as soon as it was submerged in water. He believed that his phone had poor waterproof performance and quality issues.

　　On the same day, Mr. Wu took his phone to the Huawei Customer Service Center Shuhan Road Store in Jinniu District, Chengdu, Sichuan, to seek an explanation. "During the repair, they said the screen was burnt out, but it still didn't work after I replaced it. Then they said the motherboard was burnt out and needed to be replaced." Mr. Wu told the Red Star News reporter that he had already spent 1,506 yuan to buy the screen, and now he didn't know how much more he would have to spend to replace the motherboard.

　　"The after-sales service told me that its waterproofness is only for protection against daily splashes. I have investigated and found that IP68 is the highest level of waterproofness. This is an obvious quality problem." Mr. Wu said that he did not agree with the after-sales service's opinion to replace the motherboard. His current request is to replace the new machine and request a refund of the 1,506 yuan screen fee.

The staff said that all processes were carried out in accordance with the company's normal procedures, and it was inconvenient to disclose more information. At present, Mr. Wu has complained to the Jinniu District Market and Quality Supervision Administration. At 10:30 am on the 26th, both parties will negotiate to resolve the matter under the witness of relevant departments.

　　Official customer service: IP68 waterproof is only available under experimental conditions

　　Afterwards, the Red Star News reporter consulted Huawei's official customer service hotline as a user. The staff said: Huawei P30pro's dust and water resistance has reached IP68, but the IP68 level of dust and water resistance is obtained under certain experimental conditions.

　　The experimental conditions given by the other party are as follows:

Put the mobile phone in clean water without flow, the water depth is about 1.5 meters, the test time is about 30 minutes, the water temperature and the temperature of the product are kept within a range, the mobile phone can be kept intact.

But there is a condition: before putting the phone into water, the headphone jack, speaker holes, etc. of the phone need to be blocked with special waterproof glue, so that it can support the waterproof function.

"This phone is not a professional waterproof phone. For example, if you drop the phone into water and it gets soaked or liquid enters it, it is not covered by the warranty. This is experimental data and is conditional. We generally do not perform these operations in daily use."

　　In addition, the Red Star News reporter also found the IP68 level parameter description of the P30pro mobile phone in the Huawei Mall, which detailed the IP68 waterproof conditions, namely:

(1) No flowing water, water depth 1.5 meters;

(2) The test time is 30 minutes;

(3) The temperature difference between water and product should not exceed 5 degrees Celsius.

    　At the same time, the description also mentioned: This mobile phone is not a professional waterproof mobile phone. It is splash-proof, water-resistant and dust-proof under normal use. After testing under controlled laboratory conditions, its effect reaches IP68 level under GB/T 4208-2017 (domestic) / IEC 60529 (overseas) standards.

　　During the call, the staff also added: A drop of water dripping on the phone will generally not have an impact, but if the entire phone falls into the water, it may be damaged to varying degrees, so it is not recommended for users to take the phone to the shower or swim. At the same time, IP68 is not permanently effective, and the protection will be affected to a certain extent due to daily wear and tear. When users want to do similar experiments in normal times, it is recommended to block the holes on the phone, but if they are not blocked and cause water immersion, it is not covered by the warranty.
