Capacitive touch screen controllers offer industry-leading glove touch, water resistance, and noise immunity.

Cypress Semiconductor Corporation announced that Kyocera has selected Cypress's TrueTouch® capacitive touchscreen solution for its new rugged DuraForce smartphone. DuraForce is designed for people who use their phones in harsh environments with water, dust and other harmful substances. This 4.5-inch touchscreen display using Cypress products allows users to make calls, send and receive text messages and emails, take pictures or use other key functions while wearing thick gloves or when the screen is wet.

Kyocera uses the Cypress TrueTouch TMA445 controller because it provides the industry's best glove touch capabilities for touch screens that can adapt to a variety of materials and thicknesses. The controller automatically switches between glove and finger touch modes without user settings. In addition, it provides industry-leading water resistance and immunity to third-party chargers and display electronic noise.

“We are pleased that Kyocera has selected our TrueTouch touchscreen solution for its rugged DuraForce smartphone,” said Joe Montalbo, vice president of Cypress’ TrueTouch Business Unit. “We pride ourselves on developing capacitive touchscreen solutions that work well in challenging real-world environments, and this phone is a great example of this.”

TrueTouch uses Cypress's patented DualSense™ technology to perform self-capacitance and mutual capacitance sensing on the same device, providing the industry's best water resistance and wet finger tracking capabilities, and can operate seamlessly in a variety of real environments (including rain, condensation or sweat). In addition, DualSense technology can ensure that in the case of a 0.5 mm ultra-thin cover lens and a 9 mm finger touch, it can provide an unprecedented industry-best charger noise immunity of up to 35 volts peak-to-peak voltage (Vpp) in the range of 1 to 500 kHz.

Touch Leader

Cypress has the industry's broadest and most widely used touch sensing product line, including TrueTouch, CapSense® and TrackPad solutions. Cypress has an unparalleled IP set of more than 100 capacitive touch sensing patents, including the True Single-Layer Sensor (SLIM®) solution that can significantly reduce the cost of touch screens.
