BEIJING, Oct. 24, 2011 / SAN JOSE, Calif. – Cypress Semiconductor Corp. (NASDAQ: CY) today announced that its TrueTouch® solution for large multi-touch screens is now available for the unique touchscreen display of Acer’s ICONIA TAB A100 tablet, the industry’s first 7-inch Android 3.2 Honeycomb-based tablet.
The stylish and lightweight tablet features a bright 7-inch multi-touch display with a resolution of 1024 x 600, high color contrast and a 70-degree viewing angle. It weighs 0.92 pounds and is 0.5 inches thick. The versatile A100 can be used for gaming, web browsing, and productivity applications such as calendar and email. In addition, integrated Bluetooth technology allows consumers to connect devices such as headphones and keyboards. Adobe Flash Player 10.3 is pre-installed on the tablet and is ready for use. Customers can connect the A100 to a TV via the HDMI port or transfer files through the tablet's micro USB port or use a micro SD card reader to enjoy their digital content.
Cypress's latest touch screen controller has 60 sensing I/O channels and supports up to 884 on-screen nodes, which is more than any other single-chip solution. More sensing channels are essential for higher accuracy and linearity, and can also support smaller fingers and solve problems when multiple fingers are clustered together. The flexible TrueTouch solution supports the entire development process from display design to manufacturing test, allowing customers to quickly develop advanced solutions. They can choose touch sensors (glass or film) and LCDs from their own suppliers, and can develop innovative mechanical designs that can support thin touch screen stacking. In addition, TrueTouch devices also inherit Cypress's patented capacitive sensing technology, have legendary anti-interference performance, and can work error-free in noisy RF and LCD environments.
Cypress's broad TrueTouch solution portfolio offers flexibility, robustness, high performance, and ease of use. TrueTouch multi-point full-screen touch controllers offer the industry's best scan time for true multi-finger touch detection, and ultra-high signal-to-noise ratios of more than 80:1 RMS. In addition, it features extremely low power consumption (less than 1.3 mA low-power state current), industry-best waterproofing, and wet finger tracking. "The Acer tablet delivers exceptional functionality and performance," said Derek Richardson, senior director of Cypress' Large Area Touchscreen Business Unit. "The touchscreen interface is a key differentiator for the tablet, and we are pleased to provide Acer with a best-in-class solution."
