POET Technologies, a Toronto, Ontario, Canada-based company that designs and develops POET optical interposers and photonic integrated circuits (PICs) for the data center and telecommunications markets, has opened a product design and development center in Shenzhen, which will focus on optical engines, reference designs for customer applications, and new product activities.
POET has also appointed Dr. Mo Jinyu as its Senior Vice President for Asia, responsible for managing activities in China and Singapore. A seasoned technical and business veteran in the optoelectronics and photonics industries, Mo has over 22 years of experience across a variety of companies including MACOM Technology Solutions, Bookham/Oclaro, Huawei, I2R in Singapore, and she also founded Nexvave Photonics Technology and served as CTO. She most recently served as Senior Director and Chief Scientist for the Lightwave Business Unit in Asia at MACOM and as Office Head in Shenzhen. Mo holds a PhD in Optical Communications from Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. She is a Senior Member of IEEE and has been a member of the IEEE Technical Committee for several international conferences.
POET Optoelectronics Shenzhen Co., Ltd. is a wholly owned subsidiary of POET and will expand the company's existing design, development and engineering operations in Pennsylvania, USA and Singapore. Shenzhen will also support Xiamen Super Photonics, a joint venture between POET and Sanan Integrated Circuit (a subsidiary of Sanan Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.).
POET's Shenzhen operations have made several engineering hires as the team builds a key team of experienced senior engineers and managers covering optics and optoelectronics engineering.
Vivek Rajgarhia, President and General Manager of POET, said: "Shenzhen is one of the global hubs for the photonics industry, with industry-leading engineers and close proximity to potential customers, which allows us to quickly respond to their needs in real time and in the same language and cultural environment, which is an absolute requirement for a technology company like POET. We anticipated such operational needs before we even considered forming a joint venture with Sanan, and having domestic operations in place to support the joint venture at its inception is another advantage for our future success."
In addition to serving as POET's president and general manager, Rajgarhia is also the legal representative of POET Optoelectronics Shenzhen Co., Ltd. and is scheduled to be appointed to the board of directors of Xiamen Super Photonics Co., Ltd.
